Now that the $1000 Home has been moved to our off-grid homestead site, the electric heater has been replaced with a tiny wood stove, the electric refrigerator has been replaced with a propane cooler, and the lights and water pump have been wired to a DC battery charged by two 120 Watt solar panels. We have also built an 8x10 porch off the southern side to shade out the summer sun (while still letting in the low-angled winter sun) and a water harvesting system to capture rainwater from the porch roof.
