This chicken coop was installed at Lehman Alternative Community School in Ithaca, NY to help teach middle-school students about sustainable design and local food production. The coop includes a rotatable aerating compost bin for the chicken manure, a water-harvesting system from the roof, an insulated removable worm bin to provide protein for the chickens in mild weather, and a large perennial forage landscape consisting of winter-hardy greens and grains for the chickens to eat year-round.
